OpenVPN Connect Vs OpenVPN For Android

OpenVPN Connect, the «official» OpenVPN Inc. app, is designed to be more user friendly for VPN users with less technical skills. It is, therefore, less equipped than the openvpn for android which is designed for more advanced OpenVPN users.

Openvpn for Android is a free and open source client made by Arne Schwabe that allows you to connect to any VPN service that is compatible with the OpenVPN protocol. If your device isn’t compatible the pre-configured VPN applications available on the Google Play Store, this is a great alternative. The setup is fairly simple. It is as simple as importing your VPN profile files (the config files have an extension of.ovpn) which you can get from the website of your provider or by contact their live chat support team.

After you’ve transferred your profile to the app, tap on the server to connect. Once connected it will ensure that all Internet traffic is sent through a secure tunnel, and directed to the chosen vdr providers server by the app. You can view the status of your connection as well as information in the Status tab. The kill switch is activated by default. It will block your internet connection if the VPN tunnel is lost.

The app also comes with per-app VPN and an always-on feature that automatically activates a VPN connection whenever the app is being used and continues to operate even after your device goes to sleep or switches networks. This one however requires Android 7.0 and higher, and could drain your battery more than normal.
